Where We Are, Virtue, and The MASSIVE Change Coming To Social Media
A new article came out today at TGCC as well as two episodes from two different podcasts that I cohost.
Anthem of a Generation: Where We Are by Kyle Hume
The best songwriters do more than know their audience, they join them. And Kyle Hume does just that in his recent song.
When I heard Where We Are, I immediately felt it was giving voice to a number of trends I’ve read about, discussed with young adults and teens, or felt in my own life. Some lines sound cliche precisely because they represent feelings so common in our anxious age.
Whether you are a pastor, parent, or friend of a teen, I think it’s worth a listen to better understand the next generation. Hearing them out can help us as we speak and serve them.
Solving The Problem of Parental Minimalism
How should we instill virtue in the next generation?
Parenting can often be reduced to a building up of skills to be placed on one's resume: sociability, math proficiency, computer literacy, and perhaps a few participation trophies, too. Modern education can often lack the cardinal virtues of wisdom (prudence), justice, courage (fortitude), and self-control (temperance), as well as theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity (love).
In this episode, we riff off Phil's latest pieces for The Gospel Coalition Canada: How Then Shall We Educate?

The MASSIVE Change Coming To Social Media
Have you heard of §230? Section 230 of the Communications Act? It's been giving social media companies a free pass ever since the 1990s. But it's all about to change.
The Federal Court (specifically, the federal 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals) recently released an opinion that questions 230 since algorithms in the 2020s aren't like those in the 1990s. We break it all down in this episode. Here's a pdf link to the legal document of Anderson vs TikTok (Bytedance, Inc.) that we reference.

Lastly, James Wood recently wrote an excellent personal essay that taps into a deep problem facing modernity: The Autonomy Trap.
