I’m very excited about this.
New technologies are reshaping our world. Christian leaders are grappling with social media, livestreaming worship, and now, Artificial Intelligence chatbots.
In January 2026, I will be teaching a twelve-week course at Heritage College and Seminary called Technology and the Christian Life.
My goal is for the church to better make disciples in our technological age. We must be neither fearful nor foolish. We must consider the benefits and burdens of technology, the ways it transforms us, and the ways in which we might transform our use of it. We will explore ways to grow in faith, reclaim our humanity, and love our neighbour in a digital age.
The three main focuses of this course are: media ecology (and technology ethics), biblical theology, and pastoral theology (in the areas of anthropology and ecclesiology). To be honest with you, I’ve always most enjoyed interdisciplinary learning like this. It’s why I’ve been enjoying my PhD so much, and why I think this course will act as the culmination of much of my learning.
In addition to lots of Scripture, there will be readings from the following authors:
Aristotle
Albert Borgmann
Michael Burdett
John Calvin
Andy Crouch
John Dyer
Jacques Ellul
Noreen Herzfeld
Samuel L. James
Melvin Kranzberg
Marshall McLuhan
Sean O’Callaghan and Paul A. Hoffman*
Neil Postman
Tony Reinke*
L. M. Sacasas
Sherry Turkle
* The two textbooks for the course are Reinke’s God, Technology, and the Christian Life and Callaghan and Hoffman’s AI Shepherds and Electric Sheep.
Here’s a brief video explainer:

That looks fantastic, Andrew! I've been using ChatGPT in my class at Conrad Grebel this year. My tech eyes are opening up!! Good luck with this course. It should fill up fast.
